Statements of Faith

Declaration

We, the lawfully chartered members of the Blóðravn Kindred, affirm our commitment to these principles  and beliefs guiding our spiritual journey. The Blóðravn Kindred represents a modern interpretation of the  ancient tradition of the Old Norse peoples, aiming to adapt and evolve while remaining rooted in the  wisdom of our ancestors.

Our faith centers on reverence for Old Norse principles and lived examples found in the Sagas, Eddas, and  recorded folklore, filtered through a 21st-century lens. Currently, this involves emphasizing portions of collective mythology such as the Aesir and the Vanir, the spirits of the land, and the interconnectedness of all life.

In embracing these principles, we strive to live meaningful and purposeful lives, guided by the wisdom of  our ancestors and the inspiration of the Norse gods and goddesses. We seek to foster a sense of connection,  harmony, and balance with the world around us while respecting the individual paths and journeys of all  who walk with us.

Universalism

We hold a deep respect and devotion to working with what is true for all people seeking to honor the ancient customs of the north: all are welcome. As universalists, we welcome all who come from all walks of life that devote their existence to the principles taught in the faith of our spiritual ancestors. We believe in the form and principles of the Old Norse gods and supernatural entities, the spirits of the land, and the interconnectedness of all life. Ásatrú is for everyone.

Honoring the Ancestors

We pay homage to our ancestors, both blood-related and spiritual, recognizing the wisdom and strength they offer us. We seek to learn from their experiences and keep their memories alive.

Fate and Wyrd

We acknowledge the concept of fate (Wyrd) as an integral part of life. We understand that while some events are beyond our control, our choices and actions shape the general direction of our destinies.

Hospitality and Community

We value the bonds of community and practice the virtue of hospitality. We strive to create inclusive, welcoming spaces where individuals can gather to celebrate, learn, and grow together. We offer hearth and haven from long traveling and do so honorably.

Ceremony and Ritual

We engage in meaningful rituals and use sacred symbols to connect with the divine and to mark significant moments in our lives. These rituals serve as a bridge between the spiritual and the mundane. We consider ritual essential in the pursued interest of recreating devotion to the gods and customs through observing historically influenced holidays.

Oath Swearing

We hold sacred the bonds of oath and commitment made to ourselves, our kindred community, and the gods. We understand that these commitments are the foundations of trust and solidarity among us. Nothing good can happen to people who break their solemn vows.

Self, Home, and Community Defense

We believe the responsibility of self, home, and community defense is an essential belief and active lived practice of the Heathen. This belief complies with and is in accordance with the laws of the land and does not exist as an incitement to violence.

Acceptance

We believe in the ability to practice the rites and rituals of our faith openly and unapologetically. As a community belief, our practices are shaped by the collective, not the individual. This is fundamentally what creates a kindred. This principle weaves the fabric of our kindred and cannot be destroyed.

Honor

We believe in living a life above reproach and cultivating an upstanding reputation within both the kindred community, as well as the general communities we are a part of. We conduct ourselves in such a way as to reflect well on our organization and those around us. Our legacy will far outlast ourselves.

Brotherhood, Kinship, and Trust

We believe in the integrity of relationships between our kindred members. Whether as confidants, kinsmen, or in disagreements, the bonds we have with one another shall remain unchanged. Kinsman to Kinsman shall be true.

Discernment, Moderation and Wisdom

We believe in the importance of personal growth and the pursuit of wisdom. Through self-discovery, learning, and contemplation, we seek to better understand ourselves and the world around us.
